Hospice In Houston • Halimah Price, LMSW, Executive Director
Hospice is a concept of supportive care offered to terminally ill patients and their families. It focuses on quality of life when the length of life cannot be extended. The primary goal is to provide the patient and family supportive and loving care while allowing the patient to remain at home. AseraCare Hospice offers physical (pain control), emotional, spiritual and social support services.
With a team approach, nurses, home health aides, physicians, therapists, social workers, clergy and trained volunteers meet regularly to plan the best care possible. They focus on individual assessment and care under a physician’s direction. They teach family members how to care for the patient, make regular home visits, provide caregiver relief and help determine needed services by listening and responding to the needs of the patient. Volunteers are always needed and are a vital part of hospice. AseraCare Hospice also provides bereavement services and continuing assistance to families for a year after death. The patient and family are not charged. Eligible Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance are billed when possible.
